Scholarship Description
The University of Cape Town (UCT) offers scholarships for undergraduate study in South Africa to both citizens of South Africa, and foreigners with valid permanent residence status. For many decades UCT has been providing financial assistance to assist financially disadvantaged students to study at UCT.

Funding Developments (2016)
The University of Cape Town is committed to providing a broad based financial assistance programme. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is introducing a Central Application System which will impact on UCT financial assistance policy. While UCT is unable at this stage to pinpoint the impact this may have, UCT does guarantee that no student/applicant who applies on time and qualifies for Aid will pay more than the expected family contribution it has determined. Thus, depending on your family circumstances, you may well be eligible to attend UCT for as little as R1 100 total contribution.

Eligibility
All applications are checked against the following eligibility criteria:
South African citizenship or permanent residency (conditions apply)
First undergraduate qualification, or a first diploma, or a capping diploma, will be considered for undergraduate funding
Financial eligibility
Applicant must not be under administrative order
Expected Family Contribution towards Studies:
UCT uses the government's National Means Test to determine financial eligibility. The test calculates an Expected Family Contribution (EFC).The EFC is the only amount that you and your family/guardian need to contribute towards the approved cost of attendance.

The EFC replaces the initial upfront payment required for registration and must be paid before the end of June.

Note: No student should pay more than their EFC, unless they incur costs not covered by financial aid policy.

Financial aid is comprehensive funding based on approved costs of study. The most financially needy students could pay as little as R1 100 or less towards their cost of study each year.

Method of Application
Students can download the form from the website. Financial assistance at UCT is a combination of NSFAS and UCT Bursary Funding to enable students to study at UCT. To assist applicants UCT has provided a consolidated financial assistance application form for applicants to complete and UCT’s Student Financial Aid division will process the application on your behalf.

Your application for financial assistance can be done in 2 ways: 1). Download the form on-line when you apply for academic admission, check the Student Funding Tab, and submit the completed form to Student Financial Aid; OR 2).
