Scholarship Description
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Government of Japan in cooperation with the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) have established a United Nations/Japan Long-term Fellowship Programme on Nano-Satellite Technologies for nationals of developing countries or non-space-faring nations. 

Every year this "Post-graduate study on Nano-Satellite Technologies (PNST)" Fellowship Programme will accept students in both the Masters course and the Doctorate course. Successful participants will be awarded a master or doctorate degree after successful thesis defence. The successful candidates will enroll in the Space Engineering International Course (SEIC) after passing an official entrance examination by the Graduate School of Kyushu Institute of Technology.

The Programme will provide extensive research opportunities in nano-satellite systems through the use of the nano-satellite development and testing facilities available at Kyutech. Applications for the 2017 intake are now being accepted until 22 January 2017.

Eligibility
Candidates should:

• Be nationals of developing countries or non-space-faring nations (countries without an established substantial capability to develop space technology/launch space objects);
• Be duly nominated by their institutions;
• Be born on or after 2 April 1982;
• Have the academic and professional background required by the specific fellowship programme. Candidates seeking a Master degree are expected to have completed studies ending with a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (4 year university degree) in engineering-related subjects. Candidates seeking a Doctorate degree are expected to have completed studies ending with a Master Degree or equivalent (5 years university degree) in engineering-related subjects. Degrees in different technological fields can be considered by the Doctor Commission;and
• Be able to make professional use of the experience gained in the fellowship programme.

Total of 2 years duration for the Masters course, and 3 years duration for the Doctorate course

Scholarship benefits
The selected candidates will each receive a grant under Japanese government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarship (Research Students) of about 145,000 yen per month for the duration of their fellowship study (2 or 3 years) to cover housing, food, local transportation, and other expenses (actual scholarship amount is subject to change). 

Each candidate will be provided, according to his/her itinerary and route as designated by MEXT, an economy class air ticket between an international airport in the country of his/her nationality and Narita International Airport or Fukuoka International Airport. 

Fees for matriculation, tuition and entrance examinations will be paid by Kyutech.

Scholarship Description
Ashinaga is offering The 100 Year-Vision scholarship program for bereaved or orphan students from Africa to undertake undergraduate degree studies at world renowned universities in countries like Japan, USA, UK etc.

Since 2014, the 100 Year-Vision scholarship has provided talented orphaned students from sub-Saharan African countries with the opportunity to apply for and to potentially pursue a higher education (for the level of undergraduate degree) at the world's leading universities outside Africa.

Each year, the 100 Year-Vision project will select one academically gifted bereaved student from each eligible African country who do not have the opportunity to study at a university in their own home country and provide him or her with a full scholarship to study abroad.

Eligibility
The application is open to those who:

1. Have lost one or both parents (and can submit an official document proving this)
2. Have completed 12 years of education (primary and secondary school) within the last two years, or those who will complete 12 years of education by December 31 of application year. Vocational certificates not accepted.
3. Have citizenship and completed/completing high school in one of the countries listed below
4. Are below 23 years old at the time of this application
5. Do not have the financial means to attend university
6. Are proficient in either English, French or Portuguese
7. Have an outstanding academic performance at school
8. Are able to participate in the two Ashinaga preparatory programs before attending university
9. Are willing to contribute to society in Africa after graduating from university
10. Have no dependents who could interfere with academic progress
11. Be in good condition of health and capable of studying abroad*

Selection criteria:
Students are chosen on the basis that they want to return to their countries in order to develop the industry in their chosen field of study, hopefully with positive social impact.

Scholarship benefits
This award provides a FULL scholarship that covers the cost of tuition, accommodation (during the terms and vacation), insurance, flight, and provides monthly stipend which covers food and necessary academic costs.

PLEASE NOTE:
Ashinaga is a Non-Profit Organization based in Japan that support bereaved students educationally, emotionally and financially, ranging from infancy right up to the completion of higher education. The organisation has supported young people in Japan for around 50 years but expanded to start helping students internationally in 1999 after the natural disasters in Turkey, Colombia and Taiwan.

The 100-Year Vision program has the goal to nurture future leaders in Africa by providing full scholarships to orphaned students to study abroad, whom it is hoped will contribute to development of their own countries upon their return, not long after completion of their study program abroad.
