University of the People (UoPeople) is the world’s first non-profit, degree-granting, tuition-free, accredited online university dedicated to opening the gates to higher education globally. In February 2014, UoPeople received accreditation from the Distance Education Accrediting Commission, a U.S. Department of Education authorized accrediting agency.
In embracing the worldwide presence of the Internet by using open-source technology, Open Educational Resources, peer-to-peer learning, and the assistance of academic volunteers, UoPeople is designed to provide access to university studies for qualified high school graduates, despite financial, geographic, societal or personal constraints.
UoPeople offers online associate and/or bachelor degree programs in business administration and computer science. The University has partnered with leading academics to provide high quality academic instruction and with international companies such as Microsoft and HP for internships, mentoring and career services to prepare the UoPeople student for employment following graduation.
Eligibility
UoPeople accepts students who have graduated high school (i.e. secondary school), have access to a computer and the Internet and have sufficient English skills to study at the University. Applicants need to complete the application requirements and undergo an application process in order to be accepted into the program. Scholarship benefits
UoPeople is an American online university offering distance-learning courses. UoPeople is a tuition-free, non-profit institution. The University does not charge students to take classes, does not charge for any reading and other study materials, as well as does not charge for annual enrollment. In order to remain sustainable, UoPeople charges an Application Processing Fee (up to $50) as well as an Exam Processing Fee ($100) per end-of-course-exam. These processing fees are collected towards the end of each course, and not at the start of your studies.
However, for those individuals who are unable to afford even these minimal fees, the University offers a variety of scholarship funds to cover all, or part, of the processing fees. These funds are designed to meet the unique and diverse needs of its students. Some of the scholarships can be found below:
- Microsoft4Afrika Scholarships – for African Students
- Pundak-Mintz Africa Fund - degree seeking students born or living in Africa.
- The HP Women’s Scholarship Fund – for Women from any country
- Fondation Hoffmann Scholarship – open to all students
- Small Giants Refugees Fund – for degree seeking students who are refugees and/or asylum seekers.
- Emergency Refugee Assistance Scholarship Fund - all students worldwide (esp from Syria) who are refugees and/or asylum-seekers.
UoPeople’s online application is easy, quick and simple. With a few short steps (4-step application process) and providing basic information, you can begin the journey. Applicants need to complete the application requirements (see Admissions Requirements) and undergo an application process (see Applications Overview) in order to be accepted into the program. You must mail all required documentation in order to complete the UoPeople admission application.

DEADLINES:
The admission process is administered in 5 terms annually. For the 2016/2017 academic calender, application deadlines are July 14, 2016 (Term 1, September 2016 admission), September 29, 2016 (Term 2, November 2016 admission), December 8, 2016 (Term 3, January 2017 admission), February 23, 2017 (Term 4, April 2017 admission), and May 4, 2017 (Term 5, June 2017 admission). Applications are now open again. The next deadline is 14th July 2016 for September 2016 admission.

University of the People offers a unique learning experience that combines peer-based and collaborative learning, with information technologies and the internet. Within online study communities, students share resources, exchange ideas, discuss weekly topics, submit assignments, and take exams.
