Scholarship Description
The Humboldt Foundation offers the International Climate Protection Fellowships for young climate experts from developing (and non-European) countries interested in conducting a project in Germany and developing long-term collaborations.

The fellowship enables prospective leaders to conduct a research-based project of their own choice in the field of climate protection and climate-related resource conservation during a one-year stay in Germany. 

Submit an application for the International Climate Protection Fellowships if you are a prospective leader from a non-European transition or developing country. The call is subject to the approval of sufficient financial means to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Eligibility
You should have citizenship of a non-European transition or developing country which is also your habitual abode and place of work (list of developing countries is based on the information of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD - see link to list below).

You should be working in the field of climate protection and resource conservation in academia, business or administration in your country; and active in any of the following areas: scientific, engineering-based, legal, economic, health-related or social aspects of climate change.

Application requirements:
  • The first university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) must have been obtained within the past 12 years, counting from the end of the application period
  • Clearly visible leadership potential demonstrated by experience in a leadership position, or appropriate references
  • Work experience (at least 48 months at the time of application) or a successfully completed doctorate in the field of climate protection
  • A detailed statement by a host in Germany, including a mentoring agreement.
In addition to applicants who have been trained in the natural and engineering sciences, candidates who have been engaged in legal, economic and societal issues relating to climate change are encouraged to apply for this programme.

Scholarship benefits
The fellowship will enable the recipients to conduct a research-related project of their own choice with hosts in Germany whom they are free to choose themselves.

Benefits include:
  • Fellowship amount according to qualifications between €2,150 and €2,650 per month
  • Two-month intensive language course in Germany
  • Lump sum for travel expenses
  • Allowances for visits by family members lasting at least three months
  • Allowance of €800 per month for the host in Germany for projects in the natural and engineering sciences, and €500 per month for projects in the humanities and social sciences
Method of Application
Applications must be completed online. The completed application form including all the additional documents required must be submitted online by the closing date. 

If you wish to submit an application you must register first. Your email address is also your user name. Applicants must choose a password on registration. After registering you will be sent an email with a link which will allow you to log-on and access the application form using your user name and password.
You can interrupt the application process at any time and save your data. The application may only be submitted once.

DEADLINES:
The next application round is scheduled to start on 15 September 2016. Register and apply online as from 15 September 2016 until 1st March 2017

PLEASE NOTE: 
The programme, which is being funded under the International Climate Initiative by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, includes a preparatory intensive language course in Germany, a several-week introductory seminar, a several-day training course and a final meeting in Berlin. These activities will enable you to gain additional insights into academic, social, cultural, economic and political life in Germany.

Potential applicants who have spent more than six months in Germany or more than 12 months in a country that is not on the list of countries at the time of or shortly before application should contact the Humboldt Foundation before submitting an application as they may be ineligible on formal grounds.
